# Mining

**Mining**

Like every other skill, all characters begin with a Mining skill of **10**. At this level, you will only be able to mine **Copper Ore** and **Magma Ore**.

To start mining, you will need an **Advanced Pickaxe**, which can be purchased in **Kazordoon**. Later on, with a high enough [**Crafting**](/mythera74/systems/crafting.md) skill, you will also be able to craft stronger pickaxes, such as the **Golden Pickaxe** and **Hellstone Pickaxe**.

If your Mining skill is too low for a specific ore, your character will repeatedly **“poof”** and will not be able to obtain it.

In general, the rarer the ore, the more Mining skill progress it provides.

**Note:** All ores have a random respawn timer, which can range from **1 second** to **3 or 4 hours**, or possibly even longer. Higher-tier ores seem to take longer to respawn on average, although they may still respawn very quickly.\
\
To help prevent mining makers, characters must wait **15 minutes after logging in** before they are able to mine.

**Smelting Ores**

Ores can be smelted into bars at Kazordoon's Forge. Each 5 ores of the same type can be converted into 1 bar of that type.

The higher your Mining skill, the greater your chance of receiving additional bars when smelting.

Smelting ores into bars also grants Mining skill progression.

**Kazordoon's Currency**

The dwarves use their own currency, known as **Dwarven Coins**. You can obtain this currency by depositing precious metal bars at their bank.

**Dwarven Coins** can then be exchanged for **Mystic Fragments** and other valuable goods.
